UrAssist.com and Mobility Challenges
A New Way to Go A New Way to Live for Man Who is Disabled
Man in wheelchair overcomes mobility challenges while enhancing social situations with UrAssist.
I was 29 when I had my accident. I fell down a flight of stairs, and after multiple surgeries, I ended up with both legs paralyzed and faced an entire new way of living. One of the most difficult parts of my new lifestyle was coping with the difficulties I experienced with having to go to the bathroom. People assume when they see someone in a wheelchair that they are incontinent. Thats not always the case, and its not the case for me. I have complete control over my bladder, but my mobility challenges make it hard for me to urinate when I need to.
I tried a few ways to cope based on the difficulties I was dealing with in public and at home. My experience with catheters resulted in my belief that they are no longer an option for me. I believe that you are taking a risk every time you decide to self-catheterize. Not only is it painful, it makes you susceptible to bacteria infections, not to mention the associated treatment costs. Additionally, the catheter collection bag was embarrassing, especially when I started dating again.
Then I relied on transferring to a toilet when I was in public. The process was impossible. I cant fit my power wheelchair in a handicap stall and have enough room to safely make a transfer without hurting myself. I would also just hold it all day until I get to my own toilet at home. I know this is not good for my bladder and can cause serious problems down the road.
I really thought that this is all there is, so I better make the best of it. That is until I found UrAssist . I was first introduced to UrAssist in 2006, and I what an amazing find for someone in my condition. I have been using UrAssist for several months now and it is absolutely a phenomenal product. When Im out in public, I can use UrAssist with privacy in a handicap bathroom stall. I dont need to worry about having to clean off the toilet seat and attempt to transfer. I dont need to jeopardize my health by holding it all day. Im so glad that finally I found something that solves all of the issues Ive been facing.
