Frequently Asked Questions About UrAssist
What is UrAssist?
UrAssist is a personal and portable pump-assisted urine collection and containment
device. It is designed to be by your side and ready to go when you are. It is
an alternative to some catheters, adult diapers, urinals and bedpans. UrAssist
is a private, discreet method for collecting urine for both males and females
alike. UrAssist is not something you wear, rather, when you feel the urge to
go, UrAssist is ready.
Why do you need a pump to collect urine?
The fluid pump drains the urine from the collection cup into the collection
bag reducing unwanted moisture, potential spilling and leakage which can lead
to rashes, infections, and sores. Many people are unaware when they have leaked
on the linens they are lying on. Moisture builds and skin irritation sets in,
leading to complications. Some people have difficulty using bottles without
spilling. Others still have difficulty positioning bottles to effectively collect
urine. The pump actuated system helps to pump the fluid away from the body to
reduce unwanted spilling and leakage. The pump action does not pull fluid from
the body, it only helps to draw the fluid from the collection cup.
Is UrAssist for me?

- People with debilitating physical conditions including, Multiple Sclerosis, at- risk pregnancies, etc.

How does UrAssist work?
The user opens the collection cup storage compartment and reaches for the collection
cup (UrAssist automatically turns ON). The user then places the
collection cup into position and voids as normal. A rechargeable battery operates
the fluid pump and it automatically drains the urine from the collection cup
through the tubing and into a standard type collection bag which is discreetly
contained inside UrAssist. The hidden collection bag discreetly stores the urine,
within the device, which can easily be drained into a toilet.
What does non-invasive mean, and why is non-invasive better than invasive?
The term non-invasive means that nothing attaches to or enters the body. Invasive
(or products which attach to or enter the body) products put you at high risk
of infection. Urinary tract infections are common among catheter users. Skin
infections are common for users of external male condom catheters, adult diapers
or briefs and even some collection bottles susceptible to leaking. How much
urine does the collection bag hold? UrAssist stores up to 37 ounces of urine
(1100ml) thats about a day's volume of urine. The average adult
urinates approximately 32 ounces a day.
How do I incorporate UrAssist into my lifestyle?
UrAssist is for use at home or on the go, easily attaching to the arms of most
powered wheelchairs and scooters. UrAssist has also been designed to attach
to most home beds (with optional Bedside Adapter) and hospital type
beds with rails (with optional institutional adapter). New accessories are being
developed to allow UrAssist to reside by your side no matter what your active
lifestyle holds in store for you!
What types of wheelchairs can UrAssist mount to?
UrAssist was designed to attach to the top selling powered wheelchairs and scooters
(with fold up arms). Roughly the size of a laptop computer case (approximately
12x3x3), UrAssist has been designed to reside under the arms
of todays top selling power chairs and scooters. Check back soon to learn
more about our manual wheelchair attachment, available June 2007.
Im in a wheelchair and/or am bedridden and currently use a urinal
container, how is UrAssist better ?
UrAssist provides wheelchair users and those who may be bedridden and rely upon
bottles to store urine the peace of mind knowing that UrAssist is ready when
you are. Most bottles tend to leak when they are 1/3 full. Leaking on your wheelchair
or bed creates other problems. UrAssist is more sanitary and discreet than urinal
containers. Rather than urinating into your urinal container, and having to
dispose of the urine in front of people, you can
simply urinate into UrAssists collection cup and youre done. UrAssists
collection bag stores up to 37 ounces of urine, so you dont need to empty
it until the end of the day. And best of all, there is no odor or unsanitary
bottles rolling around in your bag.
How does UrAssist attach to my bed?
With the Bedside Adapter accessory that slides securely between
the mattress and box spring, UrAssist can be used while in bed eliminating the
need to get out of bed to urinate and reducing the risk of slip and fall accidents.
Can I use UrAssist anywhere while at home?
UrAssist has been designed to be lightweight and portable. It has a carry handle
so you can carry it from your bedside to the bathroom to your lazy chair to
your wheelchair. New accessories, including a rolling caddy cart and manual
wheelchair frame attachment are coming soon, so check back!
What makes UrAssist better than what I'm currently using?
UrAssist may minimize the risk of slip and fall accidents by providing convenient
bedside, wheelchair and easy chair access. Also, if you are currently using
a commode for urinating you may find the ability to urinate in bed may be easier
then transferring. If you use a catheter, UrAssist may greatly reduce the risk
of an infection since it's non-invasive. UrAssist reduces unwanted moisture,
spills and leaking from collection bottles. It's easy to use, private, discreet,
and you don't have to wear it under clothing. Most commodes, adult diapers,
collection bottles, and
catheters have their limitations. The bottom line is, if you maintain control
of your bladder, UrAssist is for you!
Does UrAssist replace a catheter?
UrAssist is an alternative for some people who use catheters for convenience
purposes. You must have limited control of your bladder to use UrAssist. If
you have limited control of your bladder (15-60 seconds of sensation) and rely
upon either an indwelling or condom catheter, UrAssist may help you.
How can UrAssist help my aging loved one?
UrAssist provides safety and independence to elderly loved ones whether they
live alone, in a care facility, , or with you. You gain peace of mind and support
when you choose UrAssist. By eliminating the need for people who are fragile
or with limited mobility to get out of bed to urinate, UrAssist may reduce slip
and fall accidents. Your aging loved one regains their independence and dignity.
And, caregivers save time assisting loved ones with urination and cleaning soiled
linens and clothing.
What accessories does UrAssist come with?

case with carry handle and convenient storage pockets. The collection cup and
tubing kit and the collection bag and related accessories are purchased separately.
How long does the battery last?

UrAssist cost approximately $15 per set. A set includes one
(1) each Comfort Collection Cup and Tube and one (1) each Graduated
Collection Bag. It is recommended, for proper hygiene, you change
the cup, tube and bag at the same time at least twice per month.
How often do the supplies need replacing?
It is suggested the supplies be replaced at minimum every two weeks with proper
cleaning with a 50/50 bleach and water or 50/50 vinegar and water solution.
How do I install the cup/tubing and collection bag? Be sure to read the step
by step instructions outlined in the User Guide prior to installing supplies.
How does the price of UrAssist compare to what Im spending on adult
diapers?
While the initial cost of UrAssist is more expensive than adult diapers
such as Depends or Attends, monthly expenses are drastically reduced because
of decreased reliance on adult diapers. The average monthly cost of adult diapers
can be more than $150 and the average monthly cost of UrAssist supplies (cup,

the risk of infection because adult diapers keep the skin moist for longer periods
of time which may put you at risk of developing an infection.
